It is the practice of extracting information from existing data sets in order to determine patterns and predict future outcomes and trends. It is noteworthy that predictive analytics does not tell you what will happen in the future rather it provides the nature and trends of the key parameters..

Predictive modeling is essential in some of the areas where the services and resource provisioning is requited in advance to keep the processes in tact. It is also needed in detection and optimization related issues. Predictive modeling can give you the idea of the incoming challenges. Though predictive analytics is more than 100 years old, it became effective only recently due to the advances in statistics and computing.
